Massage Therapy & Bodywork

Chinese Tuina Massage

Chinese Tuina Massage is based on a 2000-year-old traditional system of healing designed to balance and harmonize the body. It utilizes knowledge of the Chinese meridian system and its acupressure points to facilitate the movement of energy or “chi” throughout the body. Practitioners assess where imbalances are presenting and address them by using techniques that move stagnant energy, calm excesses and give support to deficient conditions. Clients are dressed in light comfortable clothing. They add to the effectiveness of the treatment by paying attention to the direction of the movement of chi the practitioner indicates.
Because chi follows thought, this shared focus makes the treatment more effective.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a light-touch manual therapy that modifies and corrects restrictions in the craniosacral system—the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. This gentle, non-invasive therapy directly impacts the central nervous system and can affect many sensory, motor and neurological conditions. Clients are fully clothed during this therapy. The practitioner first monitors the rhythm of the craniosacral system to detect potential restrictions and imbalances. She then uses delicate manual techniques designed to release problem areas and relieve unnecessary pressure on the brain and spinal cord, enhancing the bodies natural self-correcting and regulating mechanism.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is the connective tissue which is present throughout the body from head to toe without interruption.  Myofascial release is a hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial (muscle & fascia) restrictions to eliminate pain and help restore motion.  It is a subtle, yet intense and effective form of bodywork.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy is a form of massage where focused pressure is
applied to specific areas within a muscle in order stimulate or relax it.
NMT helps to bring about a balance between the nervous and muscular
systems. Special attention is made to treat trigger points, local
ischemia, postural and biomechanical dysfunctions.

Orthopedic Massage

Orthopedic Massage emphasizes assessment, matching the treatment to the injury and adapting the treatment when needed.  Massage techniques can include broadening and stripping muscles with passive and active engagement, and deep transverse friction on tendons.

Pre & Post Natal Massage

The profound changes that pregnancy brings to a woman,  physical, emotional, and mental - create unique needs. This type of bodywork incorporates specific therapeutic techniques for pregnant, laboring, and postpartum women.

Seitai Shiatsu

Seitai Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork designed to move blood and lymph throughout the system. The practitioner stimulates the immune system through the use of finger pressure along meridians, rubbing and creating friction to encourage the movement of energy.
Shiatsu not only stimulates the immune system, but also aids digestion and calms the nervous system. It is very useful in supporting natural healing in people with stagnant conditions, such as arthritis, edema, colds and viruses. Clients are fully clothed and the treatment is done on a mat on the floor.

Sensory Repatterning

Sensory Repatterning is a slow, gentle, rhythmical, rocking of the body and manipulation of the joints designed to create awareness of the body, its relationship to gravity, and the possibility of reaching beyond limiting patterns. Sessions begin with the client fully clothed on the massage table. The practitioner initiates a gentle movement and waits for the body to respond. As the body responds, the practitioner finds the appropriate rhythm and continues rocking, supporting and encouraging the body to explore beyond its existing patterns. At times, the body movements feel joyful and free, at others more subtle and quiet. Feelings of trust and openness lead to the elimination of fear that commonly manifests as restrictions in the body. Clients may experience shifts in the way that they feel physically, mentally and emotionally because Sensory Repatterning taps into our innate capacity to heal and grow.

Swedish Massage

Emphasis is placed on relaxation and increased circulation. Strokes flow toward the heart. Most strokes are smooth and gentle but at times vibration or percussion strokes are used.

Thai Massage

Thai massage is one of the ancient healing arts of traditional Thai medicine known also as Nuad bo Rarn (translated as "ancient massage").  Is a complex sequence of slow soft tissue compressions, deep flowing stretches, gentle twisting, rocking, thumb presses along energetic pathways, and movements to open the body.  This elegant therapeutic modality dates back over 2,500 years and is focused on harmoniously allowing balance and a renewal of freedom to return to the body.  Traditional Thai Massage is performed in a quiet atmosphere on a mat on the floor.  This enables the practitioner to use whole body movements.  The client is dressed in loose, comfortable clothing.  The client and practitioner work together using the breath and communication to create a subtle, yet powerful experience.  During the course of a session, practitioners utilize thumbs, fingers, hands, elbows, knees, and feet to manipulate the body.

Zero Balancing

A hands-on bodywork system designed to align body energy with body structure. ZB goes beyond Western approaches to body structure by incorporating Eastern concepts of energy and healing.

Eastern Medicine

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of hair thin needles into specific points on the body to bring about change in the body's energy (Qi) system. By stimulating this energy system we encourage the body to come into balance, which resolves symptoms of disease as well as affecting the mind, and spirit of the patient.

Factory sterilized, disposeable needles are used. The sensation elicited by a needle, unlike pain associated with a hypodermic injection, most often amounts to a slight sting. Acute conditions can be alleviated with one or two treatments. For chronic conditions, relief is usually felt after a series of treatments. Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with western medicine.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbs are often prescribed in conjunction with Acupuncture Therapy in order to complement the body's ability to heal itself. Unlike Western herbs which treat specific symptoms, Chinese Herbal Therapy addresses a patient's overall pattern of health and works toward healing the whole body in addition to treating specific symptoms.

Herbs are combined in formulas that enhance their individual properties and reflect the particular conditions and needs of each patient. Herbal formulas can be in tablet, liquid or powdered form.
